THE HISTORY of SUNNYSIDE RESTAURANTThe sunny side of the world was what Charlie Mallios found in the United States of America. In 1936, at the age of 18, Charlie immigrated from Greece for the promise of the American Dream. He worked as a dish washer and short order cook working himself to manager of the Famous Texas Lunch, until he saved enough money to buy his own business. In 1948 Charlie and his family opened the “Sunnyside Restaurant”. In 1966 Charlie’s son Nick graduated from the Cornell University School of Restaurant Management. After graduation he servedwith the United States Army in Vietnam and at the USAWC officer’s club. In 1972 Nick and his wife Linda purchased the Sunnyside. After the change of hands, Charlie continued to work and greet customers until his death in April of 2004. Fifteen major and minor renovations have graced the Carlisle landmark business. Most recently The Patio at the Sunnyside opened in the summer of 2009 offering an elegant outdoor dining experience. The Sunnyside has an extensive menu that features fresh seafood, premium steaks, chef creations, Grecian and Mediterranean specialties, homemade soups, gourmet desserts and children’s selections. Through the years we have been voted “Best of the Best” by The Sentinel Newspaper readers for Best Casual Fine Dining, Best Crab Cakes 7 years in a row, and runner-up for Best Steaks and Best Gourmet Desserts.
